Baby Mobiles
Happy Sunday! Today is a cold, but sunny day here in Columbus and I'm having an itch to go shopping. Instead I decided to spend the morning looking at Mobiles on Etsy. I love Etsy. I can always find such fun and unique things, however sometimes I find something that is really out there and not quite my style. (Side note: Have you ever heard of the website Regretsy? It's exactly what it sounds like)

Obssesive Comsumption
I am dying to get my hands on this book (but I don't want to pay for it and the Library doesn't have it yet...).
I stumbled upon the blog and the book on many of my daily reads. It's been a hot topic around the design world, and for a good reason. Obsessive Consumption is a book of daily drawings done by Kate Bingaman-Burt. After finding herself in debt she took on a personal project where everyday she drew an item she had purchased.
The book itself is well designed and I love Kate's simple line drawings. And the whole idea of the book is a simple reminder of how much money one person can spend on a daily basis. It's hard to wrap your head around the total amount of money we spend daily, weekly, monthly, yearly. It can be a heartbreaking number sometimes.
There is a great interview with Kate about the book on Book by Its Cover. She explains why she started the project and how it helped her get out of debt.
I think many of us are guilty of mindless spending and we have a mentality that says, "Oh, it's only a few dollars..." but in the end those few dollars add up big time. And those daily Starbucks coffees or newest magazines aren't worth the guilt later. Trust me, I know. Even those expensive haircuts are sometimes a little too much...
So if you're going to indulge in that cup of coffee, save your money in other ways. Go to the library and read all the latest magazines and best sellers. Pack your lunch. Sit in the park and people watch. Listen to Pandora instead of downloading music. It's so easy to do the things we love and not overspend. Okay, okay, I'm done now.

The First Reactions
For many of you this might be a touchy subject, for me, it's life and I love it. Yes, I am pregnant, I am 22, and I am single. Go ahead, take a moment to digest the facts.
When I saw those double pink lines on the First Response pregnancy test I cried tears of confusion, denial, and fear. Nothing about how I felt was good. I was also drunk and at my best friends house. I called my sister hysterically crying, begging her to come pick my up and take me home. When she asked me what was wrong, I blurted out, "I'm pregnant!" She couldn't hide her joy if she tried. Yes, JOY. I was terrified and she was excited. I had clearly called the wrong person.
As we drove to my parent's house we talked about what I was going to do.
"It can't be possible. There is no way. I can't be pregnant. The test lied, " was all I could think or say.
"Are you going to tell your mom?" she asked.
Of course I was going to tell my mom. I have this problem where I can't keep secrets, even my own life changing secrets. Mom's reaction? She smiled and she kept smiling while trying to talk me back down to reality. She was happy. Did she forget that I am single? That my current job was as a waitress in Baltimore? That I had no savings or steady cash flow? Did she forget that I am 22?? Nope, she just didn't care. All she cared about was that she was going to be a grandma. Obviously, my family sees through rose colored glasses and I desperately needed to get my own pair.
My dads reaction was more what I expected, but still crazy.
"I'll get my shot gun," he said with a mouthful of eggs. We all just stared at him trying to figure out exactly what the hell he was talking about. Was he going to kill me? Really? Just like that?
"Looks like we're going to have a shot gun wedding." he finally said. I just laughed. Sure dad, whatever you say...
My other sisters reaction was another surprise and definitely not what I was expecting. After staring at me with stone cold eyes for what felt like hours she finally said, "So it's going to be a Libra?" Really? That was her biggest concern? She then went on to rant about Libras and their qualities.
Clearly my family's reactions were less than ordinary and left me feeling no better or worse about the situation. But after days of decision making I realized I actually have a pretty great life and great friends and one hell of a family, so why not have this little bundle of joy? At least I know the little bean will never run out of stories to tell about her crazy grandparents and her crazy aunts.

Just for fun....
I decided to type sapphire into the search box on Etsy. Why sapphire? That will (hopefully) be baby girls birth stone. I also made sure to specify vintage in the search. Why vintage? Because I love vintage and I hope to pass on that love and appreciation to my baby girl.
These are the items that caught my eye:
I love how simple this little ring is. It is something she could wear everyday with anything.
A playful piece like this little bug will be perfect for her to wear on her sweaters or coats.
These earrings are just fun. And I love the little touch of green.
I absolutely love this pin. It is so classic and elegant and could be put onto a hat or a spring jacket.
For some reason when I saw this bracelet I immediately thought about a costume. I want big colorful jewels for my baby girl to play dress up in. I just imagine her prancing around in skirts and my heels wearing every bracelet in our jewelry box.

Let's talk Style
What I am about to show you are some of my favorite looks and inspirations for my own everyday look.
This is my newest inspiration. I am now obsessed with longer skirts, heels, and simple tops and the scarf perfects the whole look. Pair the outfit with a simple bracelet and ring and you're done. This will be my summer look (plus a growing belly).
I also love this look, equally as simple to achieve. This is for the girl who isn't quite into skirts and heels, but still wants to look chic. I fell hard for the boyfriend jean look back when Katie Holmes started the trend and I fell hard for the blazer look when J. Crew threw it in our faces and I'm falling hard for the casual oxford look now (though it is taking me forever to purchase a pair).

Betty has one of the best styles I've ever seen. She is absolutely beautiful and always wears such interesting clothes with the best shoes. She has that perfect French style that so many ladies try to copy.
These are some looks from the Stella McCartney line. I love how simple and chic the clothes are. And I always go crazy for a black skinny pant.

These looks come from the Summer 2010 See by Chloe lookbook. I always love everything from See by Chloe. The looks are so effortless, but perfect. I love the use of color in all of the looks.
Now let's remember that I am a lady on a budget so while I admire Stella McCartney and Chloe and all those other great labels I don't actually own any of them. I like to bargain shop and I think I'm pretty good at it (see previous post). So I mostly look for the right pieces to complete these looks at places like Forever 21, Urban Outfitters (the best sales), Gap, Target, Banana Republic (sale section), Ann Taylor Loft (one of my new faves), and, of course, Ohio thrift stores. I love, love, love Ohio thrift stores. I have found sooo many cute skirts to complete that first look. And I always find vintage purses (ALWAYS). The best part? I can find multiple pieces and hardly break a twenty dollar bill. So take this as an invitation to come to Columbus and visit me. We'll go thrift store shopping and eat a Rad Dog.

So I found some cheaper alternatives:
These are from Urban Outfitters and are still a little pricey at $48. But Urban always has the best sales.
These are a steal from Forever 21 at $19.80. Though with Forever 21 sometimes looks can be deceiving.
These are another steal from Forever 21 at $24.80.
And I'm just dying for a romper. Plus the shorts on this one are almost identical in shape to the J. Crew ones. It's still a little pricey at $58 from Urban Outfitters, but as soon as it goes on sale I might have to get it.
